FUN TIMES AT STEREOSONIC MELBOURNE

I had the pleasure of going to Stereosonic last weekend in Melbourne at the Royal Melbourne Showgrounds. I got some free tickets from the lovely people at Passion Pop and City Beach. So I took my friend Stacey and her fiance Dan for a full on day out. It was a gloriously sunny day which caused a lot of problems when you combine alcohol, drugs and sunburn it tends to make people drop like flies.

Despite this it was a great day. I got to see the like of Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Major Lazer, Yolanda Be Cool, John Course and Carl Cox among other great DJs. There were 8 stages around  the place including the One Love Stage which was like Container city and even a DJ in Brown Town aka the toilets.

Although I loved the event I would find myself very reluctant to fork out the price of the ticket $100+ especially when there's a chance it could be a day of rain. Plus there were times when I feared for my safety when a gang of men pounced on someone in the stands and continued to punch him whilst racing through the stands and forcing everyone sitting there to run from the chaos. I have never seen an event with such useless security who aren't around to stop someone getting bashed or stopping an idiot drunk from climbing 20 metre high structures. I was amazed no one died it was that chaotic.

Through the madness I enjoyed the chaos and I learnt an important lesson on appropriate festival going wear. Don't wear a short, tight dress because it will cause you to flash on a regular basis.

The Weeks That Was September 20th to October 10.10.10

Hello.

It is the lovely day of 10.10.10 today.

So yes I've been busy but thats understandable seeing as I'm either working or at the Movies.
I worked at a School Holiday Camp over the School Holidays which was great fun and I had some really good kids (although theres always a few mischief makers). Then I had my usual Bushcrew job for the other two weeks, spraying like crazy and twisting my ankle (clumsy much!).

I've been a little crazy on the Movie front too. Here is my verdict on the movies that I have seen in the last few weeks.

Today I saw Made In Dagenham which I would describe as a British comedy that is based on true events. Its an entertaining movie centering on the story of the women workers of the Ford Dagenham Factory in 1968. It is a tale of the womens right to equal pay and how these women fought so every women in the industrial world would benefit. Although it didn't really have many recognisable actors it had some good acting and funny moments. I would give this a rating of 7 snaps out of 10.

Now I enjoyed watching Easy A. A teenage comedy that will have yu laughing at the rediculous situations that  gets into including gaining a reputation as promiscious by selling herself for gift vouchers so that geeks and misfits could spread rumours about there sexual prowess. The moral being that there are two sides to every story but lies never pay. I would give this move 7 and a half snaps out of 10.

Although I missed the first half an hour, was half asleep and had no idea who Glenn Gould was the Genius Within was a well put together movie about the life of composer and artist Glenn Gould. Using archive footage and interviews it would suit a viewer who knew who he was and enjoyed his music. I would give this 4 snaps out of 10 just because it wasn't my cup of tea.

Now Let Me In was a very interesting movie. This is what you would consider a Thriller Drama. It puts a new spin on a Vampire story from the point of view of Owen, a 12 year old boy who is being bullied at school who makes friends with his new neighbour who is not who she seems. And when terrible things start to happen all is revealed. A great, well made movie with some amazing acting that will have you a little bit worried as you leave the cinema. I give this movie 7 and a half snaps out of 10.

One of the best animations I have seen this year is Legend of the Guardians-The Owls of Garoole. Made by the same studio as Happy Feet and based on the best selling book series The Guardians, this is a great family movie. It follows the story of a brave owl who gets kidnapped with his brother to a secret owl slavery. He then bands with other owls to find The Guardians and save the Owl world. Its a touching movie and has some amazing animation. I give this movie 9 snaps out of 10.

One of the funniest movies I have seen this year is Going the Distance. Starring Drew Barrymore and Jason Long its a film about making a long distance relationship work. This movie will have you rolling around in the aisles and keep an eye out for Jason's bum. I give this movie 9 and a half snaps out of 10.

And finally Mr Charlie St Cloud. Not expecting to see this movie I had not prepared myself for the emotional story of Charlie. Having been brought back from the dead after being caught in a car crash that sees his brother die, Charlie is left with the promise that he will meet his dead brothers spirit everyday to practise baseball. After giving up his future to stay in his hometown for 5 years he meets a young women who takes his breath away. And so romance ensues but with a twist. Beware if you are emotional because this movie had me crying a couple of times. A great movie, I give it 9 snaps out of 10.

I also went to the event that is Godskitchen in 3D last night in Melbourne. Having won tickets I decided to check it out. I would describe it as a hectic, drug taking, alcohol intoxicated trance fest that had me dancing but did not make me want to think about spending the $100 entry fee to get in when it returns in the future. I would definately hate to be the cleaners.

It has also been a busy week trialing different products from Neutrogena. The new Pink Grapefruit Range and Healthy Defense Moisturisers seem like good products to begin with but I'm now concerned with the impact on my skin as it is going dry and flaky.

The week that was 13th-19th September 2010

Hello Readers

Welcome back to my long empty blog that I will now try and update once again. This time I am trying an approach that involves the simplicities of a week in my life.

So to start off we will discuss my working life. So for those of you who don't know, my current career is that of a Bushcrew Member which entails me dressing in some kind of fluorescent outfit and control some weeds. But this week we got a little carried away and we got to include some Tree-planting including some in some mucky sludge fit for a pig. Yummy!

In other busyness I got to catch up with some old friends to discuss the dilemmas of life, because we all have our dramas. I also got to spend an interesting day volunteering at the Royal Melbourne Show at the Spudhunters stand. Personally for me though, I feel the show is heading downhill fast while the admission price continues to go up. Considering I spent about 3 hrs seeing everything the show has to offer and that really is not much. Although I did love the new Animal Nursery which is nice and big and has lots of babies everywhere. Including and escapee Piglet that the attendant spent 10 mins chasing around the place as well as everyone else. The showbags aren't much better. No longer are there cheap, good value bags. Instead you end up with mouldy bags an broken watches. Oh well!

This week was a busy Cinema week.
On Monday I got to see CAIRO TIME. I would only really recommend this movie for the gorgeous scenery of Cairo because the storyline itself was mainly uneventful. Would really only give it 3 stars out of 10.
On Wednesday I saw the great New Zealand comedy BOY. Now this is quite a funny movie set in the 80s about an 11yr old boy who loves Michael Jackson but has a dead mother, an absentee Grandmother and a Dad who has just returned from Prison to look for his hidden stash of money. I would give this movie 8 stars out of 10. And make sure you don't finish watching until you see the Thriller number at the end because that is one of the funniest parts.
And today I spent the morning watching Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Based on the book of the same name this a great family comedy that the whole family should enjoy. Its the story of Greg, a boy just starting Middle School, trying to find a way to be cool, that never goes the way its planned. I give this movies 8 out of 10 stars.

This week was also quite good for prize winning.
  • Family Pass to Diary of a Wimpy Kid (Mix 101.1)
  • Family Pass to the Last Airbender
  • Double Pass to Easy A (Student Flights)
  • Family Pass to Legend of the Guardians
  • The Ape House book (Good Reading Mag)
  • Who Am I? (Dymocks)
  • Prize pack (Stabilo E)
Well that is pretty much my week. I hope I didn't bore you to death and if you have suggestions or comments let me know.

Love you <3
